Overview:

 

There are several resources available to MDM/R service recipients wishing to learn more about the Meter Data Management Repository (MDM/R), including:

Each of these types of resources are further described in the panels below.

MDM/R Training Courses and Materials:

 

The IESO offers various training courses from time to time that cover a variety of topic areas concerning the MDM/R.  These include the Introductory Workshops, (whose materials are provided below on this web-page) and other, more detailed training courses.    Please see below for details.

The sessions listed below are open to all Local Distribution Companies (LDCs). In addition, LDCs can also register external consultants or operating agents that they are working with in the implementation of their smart metering activities.

 

NEW 2010 Dates: Registration – MDM/R GUI Training:

 

MDM/R GUI training sessions take place at the IESO offices in Mississauga. Course dates are listed below. To register in these particular training courses, please call 905-855-4142.

 

MDM/R Introductory Workshop:

The Smart Metering System Implementation Program (SMSIP) periodically holds MDM/R Introductory Workshop sessions for the benefit of local distribution companies (LDCs) and their agents.  The purpose of these MDM/R Introductory Workshops are to:

·       Provide a high level overview of the Meter Data Management Repository (MDM/R) process flow, from the creation of a Universal SDP ID through to billing;

·       Discuss the reports that you will receive from the MDM/R and what they mean to your business; and

·       Make you aware of some of the business process impacts of the MDM/R.

MDM/R Graphical User Interface (GUI) Training:

This one-day workshop provides hands on training on how to use the MDM/R Graphical User Interface (GUI).  In this course you will learn how to:

·         Navigate through various screens;

·         Create and execute queries; and,

·         View and edit metering data.

Target Audience:

Anyone involved with Smart Meter installation and MDM/R Integration including management, customer care, metering and billing

Fee:

No charge.

 

Target Audience:

Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) and their agents participating in Unit/Enrolment Testing as part of the MDM/R Registration and Enrollment Process.

Fee:

No charge.

Further details on the workshop will be provided to registrants as the scheduled date approaches.

Please register no later than two weeks before the date of the training session you wish to attend.  Registrations will be handled on a first come first serve basis.  Attendance is limited to a maximum of 18 people per session. 

*If no one has registered by the registration deadline, the course will be cancelled for that month.   

IT Connectivity, Infrastructure and File Transfer Services:

Experience with the early adopter LDCs we’ve been working with has taught us that there are numerous issues to consider when establishing connectivity between the LDC’s and/or their operator’s and agent’s systems and the MDM/R. Topics will include:

·         File Transfer Services (FTS)

·         AS2

·         Web services

·         Digital Certificates

HOW YOU WILL BENEFIT: This session will:

·         Identify issues involving firewall configurations

·         Identify AS2 configuration requirements

·         Review of File Transfer Services (FTS)

·         Discuss digital certificate requirements / options.

·         Introduce MDM/R web services

Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Related Issues – CMEP based technologies:

In this session we will discuss technical issues related to the meter read data interface between AMI systems using the California Meter Exchange Protocol (“CMEP”) and the Meter Data Management Repository (MDM/R). Topics will include:

·         Timelines and Sequences

·         Characteristics

·         Business Rules

·         File Format Specifications

·         Data Collection Reports

·         FAQs and Lessons Learned

HOW YOU WILL BENEFIT: This session will:

·         Introduce CMEP interface specifications and requirements.

·         Help you to identify your resource requirements and to plan your implementation activities.

·         Discuss common issues encountered by other LDCs who use CMEP based technology.

·         Provide an opportunity for you to ask specific CMEP related questions.

Target Audience:

Technical IT system and network administration staff of Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) and their agents

Master Data and Billing  System “CIS” Interfaces (not specific to any CIS system)

In this session we will provide a detailed walkthrough of the pertinent technical issues related to the synchronization of your smart metering master data with the MDM/R. In addition we will provide an overview of the Billing Quantity Request/Response process. Topics will include:

·         Universal Service Delivery Point ID Request/Response

·         Synchronization

·         Billing Quantity Request/Response

·         Timelines

·         FAQs and Lessons Learned

HOW YOU WILL BENEFIT: This session will:

·         Describe CIS interfaces and discuss when and how to use them.

·         Describe issues encountered by other LDCs.

·         Provide an opportunity for you to ask specific technical and business questions.

Peer Learning - LDC MDM/R Panel Discussions:

LDC MDM/R Panel Discussions are held in conjunction with MDM/R Training Courses and will include:

·        Presentations by LDCs in production use of the MDM/R who will share their experiences and highlight some of the most important aspects of their AMI and MDM/R integration efforts.

·        A Question and Answer session with the LDC panelists and their agents. This is intended as an interactive session to answer your questions on any topic related to your smart meter implementation.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

To get the most benefit for your organization the participation of senior management is recommended. In addition, staff involved in metering, billing, customer services, communications and information technology will benefit.

This session will offer an opportunity to:

·        Understand the breadth and interaction of activities required to complete your planning and preparation work for smart metering and integrating the MDM/R into your business.
