The IESO and Electricity Distributors Association (EDA) formed the Meter Data Management and Repository (MDM/R) Operations Working Group in September 2010. The working group acts as an advisory panel to the IESO in its role as the Smart Metering Entity (SME) and represents the interests of local distribution companies (LDCs) that use or will use the MDM/R’s services. It also conducts the following activities:

• It acts as a communications conduit between the SME and LDC stakeholders;
• It provides timely input and analysis to the SME about MDM/R operations;
• It advises and works with the SME on identified or emerging issues to assist in their resolution;
• It champions and leads initiatives that support the MDM/R’s continued, effective, reliable and long-term operation;

It advocates for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) companies operating within Ontario’s electricity market and champions their interests with various stakeholders, including government and regulatory agencies and the MDM/R’s vendors.

Members

The MDM/R Operations Working Group consists of seven EDA-nominated representatives:

• Horizon Utilities (Shelley Parker, Director, Customer Service)
• Hydro One (Danny Relich, Project Manager, Smart Metering Initiative)
• Hydro Ottawa (Michel Provost, Manager, Billing, Collection & Meter Data Services)
• Newmarket-Tay Hydro (Larry Herod, Director, Distribution Services and Chair of the MDM/R Operations Working Group)
• PowerStream (John McClean, Vice President, Operations)
• Veridian Connections (Kevin Myers, Manager, Wholesale Settlements)

Governance

The working group has three key stakeholders:

• The EDA SME Transition committee
• The IESO in its role as the SME
• LDC clients of the MDM/R

Quorum Requirements

Five of the Seven LDC members are the minimum quorum and an IESO representative must be present.

Meetings

Working group meetings are held eight times per year by member LDCs. Upcoming meetings will include a one-hour MDM/R operations teleconference that will be open to all LDCs in the province.
